I made my first blackberry and apple jelly last summer. There are loads of recipes here on the vine - many that sound lovely and I will hopefully get to try some of them out this year.

I haven't bought jars from those guys yet but have them saved just in case I need loads of jars one day.

Ascott Smallholding Supplies do the hex ones, but again not very cheap. I did buy the Lakeland ones and was pleased with the quality and speed of delivery (which was a bit critical at the time!!).

I have seen people advertising on freeshare for jars, they do seem to get them! I save them up all year long, but may need to move them into my shed as they are rather taking over my kitchen cupboards

                jars

i have to agree with pumpkin becki i use lakeland once a year for mine and have been lucky to get them on offer for the last two years. you have to have the e-mails all the time but when the offers come your there to buy at a good price.
except for those i sell for fundraising for our scout group all my family can have a refill as long as they bring back a good 1lb jar.
this will be a battle from the heart

Emet Packaging, Jbconline - Jars Bottles Closures online, Glass Jars, Glass, Glass Bottles, Kilner, Jars, Closures, Bottles - Never used them, but prices look good, mostly large quantities (around 30 jars min)

Freeman-Harding - Buy glass jars online direct from the manufacturer/wholesaler Never used these either, but again prices look ok for large quantities

Ascott - Glass Jars and Bottles Have used these, reasonable prices, good service (usually full trays of jars)

Wares of Knutsford - preserving Have used these, good service.

Cookability - Jam Making UK I have used these, good for all sorts of preserving bits & bobs, and their jam/maslin pans are only £29.99 - £5 cheaper than most places

And of course preserving - kitchen ideas - Lakeland, the home of creative kitchenware who have excellent service, but their jars are in smaller quantities and cost corrsepondingly more per jar.

Why not join your local Freecycle group - Thanks to a couple of freecyclers I have enough jam jars to make a variety of preserves.

You'll probably have to give the jars a good wash, as many people put them on one side and then pop into recycling bins ... but it's worth the effort

ps: Our local group expect you to offer an item first before you can post a 'wanted' add

                        Hi All

i know this is an old post but i am a new member and have only just seen the volume of requests for jars and lids, there is a company Called Spinks Compak in Leeds they do numerous volumes of jars and lids and the staff there have been in the trade for years there prices are very good, have a look at www.spinkscompak.com i buy 1lb jam jars and hexagonals from them.

                        hope this is useful x
