Im going to grow gurkins for the first time and wondered if there was anything anybody thinks i should know or do before i start and where i can get a good supply of pickling vinegar from

Not sure on the gurkin growing but thought they were a bit similar to cucumbers,ie need a sunny wall or poly tunnel/greenhouse, i did grow cucumbers this year outside but they had a very tough skin.In summer i got pickling vinegar on a 2 for 1 from booths, maybe keep your eye out for specials as its a bit out of season they may be trying to get rid of it and you could stock up

I got a 5L bottle from my local asian supermarket for £3.50. don't buy "non-brewed condiment" stuff instead I read somewhere that it is, somehow, a derivative of the petrochemical industry. YUK!!

I'd recommend cider or white wine vinegar from Asda as price competitive, acceptable quality vinegars for preserving the wee Nepalese men.

Both are quite small of build and when they go for your throat you tend to loose big time so I guess the answer is Yes!

Has to be a burpless variety of course!

Hence the well known saying "A burpless gurkin the gurkha did eat to make him fearless and wind less"

Most Supermarkets do Pickeling Vinagar in the late summer. It is normaly clear so that you can add your own spices.
