Do I do anything to the plums before I put them in, like blanching, skinning de-stoning?

My mother has a jar of plums in grappa [homemade] that's been in the cupboard for at least 15 years that I know of since I had the job of sorting out the tins once a year.
She finally opened them this year, and they were absolutely knock your socks off fantastic.
They weren't stoned by the way. I nearly was after a couple.

I stoned the plums and peaches that I put in with the strawbs - purely for safety reasons! Don't think I would remember that they had stones in them by pudding time on Christmas day!

Thankyou - I guess this has been bumped for my benefit - I shall give it a good looking at - many thanks!

And having reviwed the comments I reckon JackieJ has the prime recipe for seasonal fruit - so I'll follow next year - I guess I'll have to adjust to supermarket 'availables' if I want winter treat!
