Ooh Goody! Another Day in my Kitchen!

(I was going to say tomorrow, but it's today now!)

I've got someone coming round at 11am, and I'm always lost for what to twiddle my thumbs at when all about me is far too tidy? (Selling House!)

So! I've taken all of my Seville Oranges out of the freezer now Shirley, and I'm going to have a monster Marmalade making session!
So 'stand by your 'puters girls!' Wellie might need advice/a blue plaster/encouragement/an extra sterilised jar/someone to distract my cat for a moment........?!

And Trousers doesn't like the peel in it either, and given that I've never made marmalade for him yet in the 7or8 years of 'Togevverness', today is a jolly good time to start me thinks.
And what better place to start than with your lovely recipes.

PS. I don't like Marmalade, but I did make it once before, a long time ago, at college when I learned to cook, and I did like the one that I made, so I'm hoping that I'll like this one too....

Oh goody!! Madmax doesn't like peel either so I might have to take out the peel after it cooks, make the marmalade, then stir peel into some of it at the end and just hope that works.

I found Seville oranges yesterday at the greengrocer (the only one around here). It is chucking it down with rain - AGAIN - (thank goodness we live on a hill) and I think I might just scrub the kitchen up a bit and make some marmalade myself.

Anyone else gonna be around to give us a hand?

An' given that my marmalade had 18 mins of a rolling boil and is still what you might call 'soft', if you could both look at the clock when it comes to that bit rather than that 'when it's ready' vagueness, I would be mighty grateful...

I'm not much help when it comes to the actual making of marmalade (only done it once) but I'm pretty good at dishing out loads of encouragement and, I still have a couple of bottles of orange wine left

I'm here (supposed to be working but hey!!!) - never made marmalade but I do know a few cat distraction techniques and have a handy supply of blue plasters in the first aid kit in the office ... ! Good luck all you marmalade makers - let us know about progress ...

I've been searching for sevilles with no success. Hull isn't exactly the Hub of the Culinary Universe! I came home this morning wil big oranges and lemons - I'll make my usual St Clements(!) tomorrow so today I'll be mostly shredding (my new steel will come in useful to keep the knife sharp!

Okay. The Sevilles are chopped (flesh, pips, pith, rind) and all in the preserving pan with all the lemons (ditto) and H20, being gradually brought up to the boil.

Surprise Surprise.... BC cat now wants to play 'Snowmen', which consists of a stuffed snowman head on a long string tied to a long wand, to save getting one's pinkies scratched to shreds.

I'm making a Jelly version as well Shirl, but I might not bother with any shreds in at all afterwards, and knowing my luck at the moment, they'd only sink to the bottom anyway!

Actually BC has got a good afternoon playing with mummy ahead as the shred takes AGES to soften - or does that not matter as much if you aren't going to use the shred?

I'm going to do Bananana marmalade as my next one, btw - anyone done that before??

No, no washing up to be done luvvie, so just top your glass up and pull up an armchair (see Wellie hand over Mr. Snowman to Haze, and cat looking quizical: "Who Dat Mum?"

"That's your Auntie Hazel, sweetheart, and WAY over there, that's your Aunty Clarey from the funny face on the 'puter screen?" (she's met Clare & Klever Keith on MSN before today peeps!)
