  • sterilising advice pls ?

    hi, am going to make rhubarb and ginger jam tonight, have jars here ready to sterilise, whats the best way to do this, any advice welcome. was goin to put them in the oven on low heat, will that do the trick ???

        Great - I've got a big bag of Rhubarb in the freezer from last year. Can't decide what to do with it! WE don't eat a lot of jam, so I was going down the alcohol route, but haven't got round to it. Let us know how you get on.

          On the sterilize topic. When I need 'clean' jam jars I dunk them in the solution you make up for wine equipment.

            I put them in the oven too - it means they are well hot when you pour hot jam into them. No cracking!

              I microwave the jars and put the lids in boiling water for a few mins.

                hey there, i followed wrexs advice, have made 3 batches of it now, its beautiful jam, still 14 pots in the larder, but goin fast, will have to make more.. he,he, i love the smell of jam cooking on the hob!!
