Plastic ketchup bottles ....

I've got quite a few plastic bottles e.g. ketchup, salad cream, relish etc but before I pop them into the recycling bag wondered if anyone reuses them?

If you do, how do you ensure they are ok for re-use - sterile, air-tight etc.?

I may get sent to wash my mouth out for this - but I wouldn't ever keep them, I just know I wouldn't be bothered with washing/cleaning/storing/re-filling them

I do re-use some of them (for plum sauce etc). To ensure they are clean I wash in hot soapy water and sterilise in Milton (the stuff that is sold for sterilising baby bottles)

The only use I have for them is Dog training - a squirty bottle of water is an excellent tool! Except I no longer have a dog!

Just had another thought - what about putting hot liquids into them? Will they melt? How do the manufacturers overcome this?

OK, if you have no use for them then recycle them. Except I seriously doubt if our recycling bin contents do actually get recycled!

They might come in handy for other uses, but I wouldn't use them for food products...
Have you considered cutting one down as a spare plant-pot or some equally 'off the wall' purpose?

I have in the past used them to rehouse sticky things like honey or golden syrup.

Why would you want to boil them? There are other methods of sterilising.
