Can I re-jar jellies and chutneys

I would like to give some jellies and chutneys as Xmas gifts but at the time I made them, only had quite large jars. Is it possible to re-jar them in new, smaller sterilised jars and would I have to heat the jellies/chutneys up again?

Chutneys should not be a problem since there is hardly any prospect of their going mouldy. Jellies are a different matter. I wonder if it would be adequate for you to fill your sterilised jars and give them a minute or two in the microwave, or longer in an oven, with the lids off? One thing is sure - someone on here will know! I use Kilner jars for marmalade, just because I have a lot of them, and decant it into smaller jars without reheating. We do eat it pretty soon afterwards, though.

my missus a while ago made some blackberry jam, it was nice but for some reason the fruit went very hard so after a few months she upped and took it all out of the jars and re-boiled it straining out the fruit
it reset with no issues and is perfect to this day

I've re heated and re potted rosehip jelly before when the set was too runny - no problems with mould either.

If you have jellies set into large jars, you'd have to heat them up anyway or wouldn't they look a bit weird scooped into smaller jars?

I don't understand what won't work....as long as you just heat it through and don't boil it it should be fine.

I guess I was worried that it might lose it's set if re-heated or it's flavour.

Shouldn't do, but as Zazen says make sure you just heat it gently, don't let it boil.

Don't let it boil for any length of time, but if it comes to boiling point, THEN SWITCH OFF THE HEAT and rejar as if it was a new batch, you should have the perfect result.
While the sugar content is a major factor in the keeping quality, having the stuff at sterilizing temp just before it goes in the jar makes sure of it (if you seal while still hot).

Because you are not sterilising the product, I would be tempted to state that the product should be consumed with in a month and once opened within 3 days if kept in a fridge.

So long as it is used in a short time, you should not have a problem.
