Hi. I have some green 450ml lager bottles that have a flip top metal piece with a rubber ? stopper on them. I thought they would be great to use for sauce or syrup for drinks. Does anyone have any simple, straightforward ideas for these bottles? I am a brand new newbie Thanks

I make my own tomato sauce, here's how I make it. I don't follow a recipe because it changes from year to year depending on how many tomatoes I grow. It's not hard but it is a little time consuming, but well worth it.
I put lot's of chopped up tomatoes in a large pan any variety will do, if you haven't any fresh...tinned one's will do or bottles of passata work well. Add as much raw garlic as you like, fresh thyme, a good glug of extra virgin olive oil, a large pinch of sugar, salt and pepper. Bring the lot to the boil, then simmer until a third of the liquid has evaporated. Pass through a fine metal sieve until you have a thick sauce, return to the heat cook through taste for seasoning, then bottle & seal while hot.Last edited by ginger ninger; 03-04-2011, 09:33 AM.

I have used those bottles for homemade ginger beer (ginger-beer-plant type) but before long it's being made faster than we can drink it, and if kept even a little too long, when opened the wire gives way, the top flies off, and you get a ginger-beer ceiling!Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Ginger beer ceiling sounds interesting Hilary I have a lemon tree that usually produces a decent amount, lots of green ones on there at the moment, I wondered about making some sort of lemon concentrate syrup, the type you would add water to in a glass. Meanwhile I will continue to collect these bottles, Im sure they are going to come in handy!
