I've made piccallili for the last 3 years and the only 'expensive' bits are the mustard and turmeric, but then I found our local branch of PAK supermarkets. What an Aladdin's cave of goodies! Bought mustard for quarter of the price of Coleman's and it's just as good, but not as yellow. However, since the turmeric makes everything bright yellow anyway ...... If you have not been there yet, go! It's a lovely shop.
