VVG am very impressed - have always wanted to do this. tried one at a farmer's market once which was blackberry and fantastic - the overpriced kind I buy for kids are too bland and sweet (too much apple)? sour apricot would be great, though am assuming you'd have to buy in...which would defeat the purpose. what other fruit do you have?
apple with cinnamon would be yum...plum and star anise, for the ultimate in poshness? apple lemon and sugar for that apple-compote-style kick? oh I like this game. I know, why don't you cook them and I'll, er, test them for you?
wonder if you can make alcoholic sloe ones?

Quince is great - good on its own I reckon.

I made a lot of apple and blackberry this year as we had a glut and used honey to sweeten. Dried them in the sun in a couple of days. I wrap them in tin foil and keep one in my bag, great for the kids when they want some thing to nibble on on the way back from school.

Oh VVG, wouldn't that be great? only bad thing about the forum, it doesn't actually = real life damn damn. now come on tell me what fruit you have and I can make up recipes for you. like chutney-making but without the, er, jars of chutney.
Flummery, I do be reckoning that quince would be FANTASTIC. yum yum.
and does anyone have suggestions for the best combo if I have to buy from the farmer's market?

Wash your mouth out BR - buying fruit?!
I don't have quince but am eyeing some up on a tree in someone's front garden. They are falling on the ground and they are leaving them there.
I have masses of apples but not much else at the moment. Sloes in freezer. Fancy making some more apple with my Autumn raspberries - shame the birds are taking them!
Leek and vanilla anyone? Potato and rosemary sugar - blurgh!
