  • My weekend is going to be spent dealing with 3lb plums, many lbs of apples and eight cucumbers. I'm thinking Sweet Cucumber pickle, Spiced Plum chutney, Apple & Chilli Jelly and maybe Plum & Apple jam!

    • It has been such a productive season 'fruit and veg wise' that I am running out of jars ... and I have been stockpiling since Christmas. And the damsons aren't ripe yet! Eeek. Found a wonderful recipe for cucumber pickle/relish which is great as my gherkins were rubbish this year. I grew them at the plot and did not lavish enough attention on them.

      • 8 jars mint jelly. 8 jars thyme jelly both have a lovely pink colour because of the apples I used and 6 uses of piccallili

        • Well I now have 1 bottle of sun dried cherry tomatoes. A lot fell short of the jar, but they were quite delicious.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

          • Pickled some beetroot in white wine vinegar (didn't have any red) and a big slug of homemade raspberry vinegar

Hi any idea how to stop the mint sinking to the bottom of the jar. I made some and it is all jelly at the top and mint at the bottom

What you need to do is let the jelly cool before jarring and give it a stir. This should keep the mint mixed in.

                  • I wasn't going to preserve anything this year, as I've still got jars in the cupboard but I couldn't resist.

                    So far:

                    5 jars of blackcurrant jam
                    5 jars of damson jam
                    6 jars of chilli jam/jelly
1 huge jar of pickled courgettes
                    1 jar of pickled eggs

                        • I wasn't going to do any this year either but as soon as the fruit starts to ripen I just can't help myself!
                          Today:
                          6 jars of grape jelly
6 jars grape & rosemary jelly
                          12 jars blackberry chutney.
Elderberry and apple juice in my jelly bag now, ready for jelly.
Pear &apple chutney later if I can get some jars together...

                          • I have made jelly for the first time this year and the blackberry jelly amazed my husband, amazed me even more.

                            GORGEOUS!!

However, flushed with confidence, I then attempted grape jelly and ended up with brown gloop.

Has anyone got a reliable grape jelly recipe please.
