Hi I have loads of beetroot, how do you make the pickle, would love to try it
I wasn't going to do any this year either but as soon as the fruit starts to ripen I just can't help myself!
Today:
6 jars of grape jelly
6 jars grape & rosemary jelly
12 jars blackberry chutney.
Elderberry and apple juice in my jelly bag now, ready for jelly.
Pear &apple chutney later if I can get some jars together...
I tried grape jelly and it will not set..grrrr any chance of you recipe please?

I don't do much measuring but here goes:
Fill a large saucepan with grapes, pour in any left over red wine!!! And add enough water to come just below the top of the grapes. Add the grated rind of one lemon. Add few sprigs of rosemary if you like.
Simmer and crush grapes to ensure all juice is extracted. Put into a jelly bag and let drip.
Use 1pint of juice to 1lb of sugar and juice of half a lemon.
I find if you boil up in smaller batches, it will set. Good luck!

Many thanks, I will try again. maybe the sort of grapes make a difference as this is pretty much what I did, in fact probably used less water...hummmmm...maybe its the smaller batches that makes all the difference
3 jars caramelised red onion chutney, 3 bottles seriously hot chilli sauce, 3 bottles chilli oil
Can I have your chilli sauce recipe mrswadders, I've got a glut of Krakatoa and scotch bonnets!! Also how do you so your oil as I would like to make some too
Will pull it out when I get home (at work at the mo) It's really simple, certainly not an exact art! Same as the oil, although for that use dried chillis. The smell got me right at the back of the throat last night as it was a bit pungent!
Following on from my pickled onions the other day, I made Ripe tomato & chilli chutney last night. The left overs tasted good with goat's cheese on rye crispbread. Yum.
While wearing your night clothes, plant cucumbers on the 1st May before the sun comes up, and they will not be attacked by bugs.
Chilli sauce
3 red bell peppers
3 onions
6 garlic cloves
450mm vinegar I used red wine
3 tsp sugar
3 tsp salt
now I used about 20 to 25 chillies diff varieties no idea what they were!
Roughly chop everything bung in pan with everything else. Bring to boil and simmer for 30mins ish. Blitz in blender put back in pan and heat until required consistency. Bottle and enjoy!
