Kilner bottles and jars - IKEA

This may have been posted before, if it has apologies.

If you have the misfortune to have to venture to the blue and yellow hell that is IKEA, have a look at their Kilner style jars and bottles. Quality wise they are bang on (I have Kilner / Le Parfait and Kitchencraft versions and the Ikea ones are every bit as good).

Example:

Korken 0.5L @ 80p a pop.

I'd imagine these would make good storage/delivery vessels for edible Christmas gifts. They also have 1L and bigger and lever top bottles. But enough already.....

Mrs H say she will happily pay twice as much for the jars as long as she doesn't have to go to the blue and yellow hell.

They must have improved them in the past couple of years then as they did used to look fine but couldn't stand the pressure necessary to get a culinary seal and when I used them for slow gin would leak a big if turned upside down. This was for the jars, don't know about the bottles.

I have some of their bottles, and they are ok, but there are better values alternatives out there TBH.

Plus you don't have to go into the maze of no escape.....

I have decanted stuff from the Swedish ones yesterday, and they seemed to be robust enough. Far better than cheaper ones, to be honest. Couldn't quibble at the price, fraction of the 'posher' Kilner ones. I don't have a problem with the 'posher' kilners ones though, but they do leak a little with inversion of Gin. As Alison says....I guess.


And how do you get the whiff of blackberry dark rum out of an empty Swedish one?

I think the design has been updated to be more of a direct rip off of kilner/le parfait etc.

A couple of years back I had some of the inferior ones (rubbish thin seal and oversize jar that were badly aligned on the seam). These are completely different.

I do concur though, Ikea ia a nightmare to navigate. I hit it on a mission with a list (without getting too distracted) and reward myself with a Quorn hotdog and coffee upon exit.

Am I the only one here who loves IKEA? My only issue with the places is that every time I go, which fortunately isn't that often, I spend almost £100 exactly!
