Yup- I'd pick and freeze until you have enough!

Invest in a thermometer, they are not expensive. Boil until it reaches 104 oC. Test on a cold saucer.

I used to make jam without one and got hit and miss results using the saucer test.

Now every pot is spot on, a good investment.

I used to have problems with mine setting, kids even called it 'fridge jam' then I gave in and bought a thermometer it made all the difference and It gets used for yoghurt as well.

Blackberries are only just starting to blacken arround here, still quite a few flowers on the plant. It may be another 4 weeks before they are ready to pick.

Not ripe here either. It will be end of August I suspect. I always make jelly with blackberries. It's one of my elderly Ma's favourite jams and anything with pips in gets under her dentures!

I picked 13lb yesterday from my thornless plants in the garden
Got 5 1/2 pts of juice from them!..and 11 pots of jam ..this lot set!

This variety ( no idea what they are) are huge and sour and very bitty...not at all nce to eat- but as a jam they're delish!

Plenty more to pick over the next few weeks too!

The wild ones here are still in flower- with a few green fruit ..can't believe it's nearly that time already- I always think of Autumn term starting about the same time...and going picking in my wellies and anorak with my Granny who'd them make an apple and blackberry steamed pudding served with gold top custard...aww...I miss her.

Ooh yeah, sour sounds perfect for jelly as you can add the right amount of sugar to preserve it without it being too sweet, yum! I LOVE blackberry jelly and can't wait for our local freebies to be ready

Wow! Drooling at the thought of Bramble Jelly . Nan used to make it, think I'll carry on the tradition as there will be an abundance round here in a few weeks. Also discovered Bullaces and Damsons at the Stables, that no-one else will be interested in, as well as loads of Elderberries and Sloes galore!

Best go and clear some space in the freezer and count my jar and bottle stash!

Oh yeah, and buy some sugar!

I noticed yesterday that they are just starting to turn black, but they are very small this year.

Will go tomorrow and pick some, but I don't think I will need a big bucket.
