    Your jam sounds good and it might not be any cheaper, but you know what is in it, no nasties, preservatives etc.
    A basket filled with different jams, pickles, chutneys and jellys made with the produce from your allotment makes a great gift too.

      yep, you're right there sue
      my mother is the one for making pickles and chutneys and stuff - she seems to think i've got an orchard and a farm .... i'll probably let her make all that sort of stuff in future - i'll stick to the plum crumbles etc!

        Has anyone else discovered Fruit Spread? from the health store (Holland and Barratt stock it I think). Its less sugary than jam ... looks a bit like Marmite, but tastes lovely. Perhaps you could be inspired by it to Make Your Own?
