  • Kitchen Timers ?

May be classed as a rant:
They go up to 2 digits for the minutes, so it seems they cannot be set to say 2 1/2 hours to cook something either big or slow. That being 150 minutes.

Next they have 2 digits for seconds. Why?
If I set it to say 59 minutes and 30 seconds will that result in an undercooked whatever compared to 60 minutes?

If set to 60 minutes and I left the "old/previous" seconds on then will 60 minutes and 30 seconds result in a dry unedible dish? Why have seconds at all they are irrelevant.

Seems apparent that whoever specified them didn't cook food.

Is there a 3 digit or 4 digit timer out there that doesn't bother with seconds so I can get 999 minutes? 16 hours and 39 minutes should be enough.

I seem to be a dab hand at breaking timers. I'm thinking of getting a digital alarm clock instead. If you did this, Kirk, you could easily time things for more than 99 minutes.

Are you cooking with something specific in mind or just generally wanting to cover all eventualities?

I use Alexa for all my timing needs. It's the one thing she does well, lol.

I use my phone...means I can go pottering around the garden and hear the timer when it goes off!

I have one on the cooker, use it for everything.

If it takes longer than a couple of minutes, I guess when its done. The longer the time, the more leeway there is.

I use the timer on the cooker for most things but often back up (belt and braces type of person) with my 'phone.

I'm another one who uses my phone, like scarlet says you're not tied to the kitchen.

I’ve got a kitchen timer that has hours, minutes and seconds, perfect for when I want to slow cook something and likelihood of putting phone down somewhere and not hearing it in interim is high.
