When I last grew carrots on the allotment I didn't use any barrier, and they all got attacked of course. Since then I've tried growing them in the garden in the ground with very little success, but no need to use a barrier, as I have very tall fencing all around the garden and the flies don't find their way in. I do grow them in buckets though, and I will definitely sow them in the bags that currently hold tomatoes, once they've finished
