  • Green chilli recipes?

    Sent OH to water stuff in the allotment GH this morning, who proudly returned home with a couple of pounds of green chillies (jalapenos) he had ‘found’ on the plants
    We don’t have any freezer space at present, and won’t get through more than a handful fresh.

    Can the green ones be dried?
    Or does anyone know any other means to store them?

      We slice them, place in sterilised jars and cover with boiling malt vinegar.

        I add some sugar I like the vinegar to have a hint of sweetness, same with my beetroot! I'll often use some clear vinegar - just cos I prefer the look and because I will then use the vinegar in salad dressings.

                    Thanks SP - I really haven’t got the knack on the search thingy on here.....
                    Have a few drying as an experiment, and will try a couple of jars of the pickles and cowboy candy at the weekend (when I figure where to buy some celery seeds ) ;-)

                        I've never grown jalapenos (trying to this year but without much success.) However, I can't imagine that they will dry well, being so fleshy.

                        Most things I could suggest have already been covered but a "traditional" use for green jalapenos is sliced on pizza.

                            Once you’ve tried them you won’t want to change anything on the recipe . I did once use some hot jalapeños in the mix just because I had them. That didn’t work so well it was a little to hot, spoiled it a bit. But still perfectly edible.

                            I usually miss out the celery seeds because I’ve never got any in when I make it .
