  • Peeling almonds

    I know, life’s too short, but I was trying a new recipe which breezily said ‘step 2, rinse the almonds and peel the skins off’. It sounded like it should be quick and easy, and I fear I may have been misled

    It took me 4 hours and a few new cracks in my fingertips...

    Do any of you fellow grapes have ‘the knack’, and equally important are you willing to share?

    Blanch them in boiling water and the skins come off easily.

      Roitelet's right. Next time buy ready blanched almonds, there's not much difference in the price for the 100g packs.

        If you give them a quick blanch they just pop out of their skins. I needed ground almonds late one night (in mid-recipe) and actually skinned and ground some.
        But totally agree buy them ready prepared.

          You can soak them overnight, cover with warm water, leave aside, the skins should come off easily

            The instructions said to soak overnight in cold water which I had done , probably about 16hrs in total. Will try hot water next time, if I don’t manage to find somewhere round us that sells the peeled ones!

              I probably blanched mine for a out a minute. I took one out of the water and tried it. The skin had gone really loose which is why it just popped out.
