Fair enough, Piglet - like the wine kit, the marmalade making has been a 'procedural' thing so that I can 'get me 'ed round' the nuts and bolts of marmalade/jam/jelly making in order that I can go forward and deal with my own produce gluts this year - e.g. gooseberries, and (with a bit of luck!) red and blackcurrants.
This will not stop me going 'Mmm mmm mmm' when I have marmalade on toast tomorrow morning with an expression on my face not unlike the one you had whilst eating pizza from your clay oven.
Oh boy you are so right. Jam making is such a glut buster, and like you say, getting your head around the process and getting the feel for it ready for your fruit explosion is effort definitely well spent.
To be honest, marmade isnt as good as the real thing but comes a close second, you dont however get the sense of achievement that you get when doing it all from scratch and if were honest, thats a big part of it.
Just found out what I missed last night Hazel - what excitement! I was having excitement of my own at my next-door neaighbour's 80th birthday party - big hotel in town, super do!
The marmalade looks fabby - I'm on the trawl for sevilles myself, as you say, the supermarkets are useless. I usually make an orange and lemon for the daily marmalade througout the year. (St' Clement's!)
The main thing you need to remember (you obviously did it right!) is that if the peel isn't soft when you add the sugar it won't get any better. You should be able to rub it away to a smudge between finger and thumb. Down to half a jar - MUST make some best week!
A bit of an odd thing, tho' - the jar I've opened is a touch on the 'soft' side (well, alright, it's RUNNY!!) and yet when I tip the other jars, they are not
Have you tried opening one of the others to see what they are like? They might be solid until the jar is opened???
No I haven't, but I did wonder that!
I've put a couple of big spoonfuls in the venison/bean/mushroom/everything else casserole that's in the oven - it's an excuse to chomp through it so I can have another go!!

When I read the other 'what I did today' post I thought, runny marmalade perfect for pouring over Vanilla ice-cream? No?
Well I don't know. I hate marmalade.
