  • Avocado recipes anyone?

Does anyone have any nice, simple ideas for avocados? I've got a couple of 'posh' recipes but I'd really like something my kids will eat (or at least try!).

Mmm, it's a funny texture which you can either love or hate. Guacamole is a good bet, they could eat it with Doritos or pitta bread and if they like the taste then maybe try them with chunkier bits.
At an anniversary dinner I went to before CHristmas, one of the courses was half an avocado mothered with stilton and grilled until brown and bubbling. To be honest, I don't think cooking the avocado did much for it's taste (and the cheese was strong too).

my gran used to mash them with a fork add pepper and vinegar then eat them on crackers or use as a dip never tried them myself my mum told me they were horrible and i've belived her for 33 years. ummm might get one to try.
I'd rather regret the things i've done than regret not doing them at all.

...but feel like soap. I can do without them really, and very high in cholesterol I believe.

              I like advocado:

              The filling:

advocado and chicken both chopped into cubes
              a little finley chopped onion
              Mixed with mayonaise

Kids like this mixed with cold pasta or in a sandwich. Either way you can add your salad of choice.
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

Not really a recipe as such.

Cut them up into bite-size chunks and add to a tin of biona mixed beans, and give them a 'coating' of french dressing (for taste and to stop the avacado going brown), serve on a bed of crispy lettuces, with some fresh crusty bread.

Can't you tell I'm not the cook?!

I use it in salad mix (but DH don't like it) or make a fresh rich avocado juice as I have sweet tooth.

                    Avocado juice:
avocado, honey & a bit of cream put them all in a blender then add a bit of ice and water, blend it to creamy rich yummy drink...love it.
                    I grow, I pick, I eat ...

I'm liking the with chicken/bacon/salad idea and the juice! I don't know if it's the consistancy or the novelty but I've got the kids to have all manner of stuff since buying a juicer, hadn't occurred to me for avocados though!

                          Thanks for the tips, everyone

I love avocado!!!!!! My favourite is a salad. Variety of salad leaves, sliced red onions, tomatoes, dressed with a honey and mustard dressing, (have a good supply of the fresh honey from a local beekeeper), I always use wholegrain mustard, topped off with mozzarella. Alternatively added some grilled goats cheese to the middle of the salad with black pepper. Some thinly sliced french bread with sundried tomato, fresh chives and melted mozzarella....mmmmmmmm. I live on this sort of meal come summer...yummy!

It's good soluble fat, not bad cholesterol, plus full of minerals... Nobody ever got fat and unhealthy eating fruit and veg!
Anyway, one of my all time favourite foods is granary bread toasted (two bits), with half an avocado roughly mashed onto each piece, and splashed with soy sauce. Mmmm. Takes two minutes and tastes great.
