Chilli chocolate

Here's a challenge - I keep meaning to experiment & maybe will do over the next few bitterly cold and wet days: best chilli and chocolate recipe?
At Christmas we bought some Lindt chilli chocolate bars (about 74%) and it was soooo good. My first thoughts would be with a mousse. (Though I have vague recollections about chocolate in chilli con carne)?

Chocolate and chilli are a very "normal" combination in a Mexican sauce called mole. However, it uses pure chocolate (no sugar, butter, cream adder to the bar stuff). It is a bit of an acquired taste for foreigners I think, but I absolutely love it! It doesn't taste chocolatey, in fact it has loads more ingredients (nuts, herbs, several types of chillies), its quite creamy. You can get it at mexgrocer.co.uk. As for making it myself, I pass, it's a whole ritual! That's why we always stock up whenever we go to Mexico

I frequently add ground cardomon to my chocolate cakes, people that eat them (I don't) absolutely love them.

I added a dessert spoon or so of cocoa to each batch of chilli i make, makes a really thick, dark, tasty chilli! important to be careful and add a bit at a time though, once i added rather too much, OH wasnt impressed

I have a chilli recipe which you add a couple of squares of dark chocolate to near the end of cooking and a lot of shop bought chilli sauces contain cocoa powder - a problem for a friend of mine who is alergic to chocolate! You can't taste the chocolate but it does make a difference if you see what I mean. On a different note, bought some chilli chocoate a bit back myself and thought it was a bit odd tasting and not worth the high price but each to their own.

Indeed!! Mole is great in anything and with everything! Chicken, beef, vegetables, fish, prawns... And in chilaquiles, quesadillas, tamales, tortas, empanadas, enchiladas... I know, many of those dishes would be unknown to most Brits, but if anyone daring enough wants some Mexican recipes, just pm and I'll happily share. I've a recipe for mole, I'll dig it out, translate it and post it, Suee. Anyway, good luck to all with your experiments, keep on posting, as I'd love to hear more ways in which chocolate goes with savoury foods!

i serve chocolate with venison i my restaurant its great chocolate is so good you can do anything with it but i find the best chocolate is green and blacks as the cocoa content is nice and high

You should try chocolate ice cream with chilli. Now that messes with your mind.

or melon & chilli sorbet thats great the strangest icecream ive had is sweet potato that wasnt nice and that was in a hotel near me
