I'm trying to lose weight too, as im clinically obese. I'm doing weight watchers but i'm really really struggling with motivation at the moment... i lost a stone but then i've been about the same weight since christmas.
Stress levels at work definitely aren't helping as I'm a comfort eater.
Actually does anyone have any idea for low fat high protein vegetarian snacks for after lottie digging sessions? I keep finding myself eating peanuts (which though healthy fat, are still fat!).

Wine is my problem too. I actually eat a very healthy diet, but I can't drink tea or coffee without sugar. Sweeteners are disgusting, I don't like fizzy drinks and juice has as much sugar as my tea. If I didn't have to take in fluids I'd be a size eight.Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

sez, go back to basics, and track EVERYTHING properly for a week. It's surprising how easily it is to increase portion size etc without realising. And go for the boost week thing where you have 18 points and boost your weight loss. Whst's it called - fats track or something?
(Sorry to turn this into a WW slot)

Wine has the same effect with me,think I'll have just the one glass then suddenly it's all gone! How did that happen? But would love to join in with the diet thing. Been thinking about it since new year and would be great to have people to share progress etc with.Looking forward to starting digging and being more active again .Here goes!!!!!Gardening forever- housework whenever

Pitta bread is higher in protein than normal bread (Tesco have some new Dr Food ?? seedy pittas which are delish - two for one at the mo).
Eggs are high in protein and low in fat (leave out the yolk if you want to be extreme). Flavour with mustard instead of butter.
Nuts are good for you, but high-calorie. You can only have a couple really, not a handful.
What about Chick Peas? If you cook them up as normal but dry them off you can carry them round in a plastic tub or else leave in fridge. Superb snack, nutty like nuts but without the cals. Flavour with soy or chilli sauce?Last edited by Two_Sheds; 29-03-2008, 08:29 AM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

My job is office based and not near enough to walk. I hate excercise classes and gyms.
Try not opening the wine until an hour before bed. If you must have some when you get home, have half a glass, then put it away until 9pm or whatever.
It's just a habit, as is excessive sugar in tea. Habits are continually formed and broken. Taste buds adapt ... I used to eat a sticky bun every day for years, and now I don't crave them at all. Ditto with Fat Coke.
Exercise
As for exercise, Mr Sheds has the same problem: work is 30 miles away.
Our solution has been to swim at a pool on the way to work for 30 mins (285 cals x 4 times a week = 1140 cals) . Bike to the pub/shops instead of a bus (20 mins = 190 cals twice). Walk to the end of the beach if the weather is nice enough (35 mins= 166 cals x twice a week) Grand total = 1852 cals burnt off per week, or about 25 lbs weight loss a year. MIL puts on a dance CD while she cleans the house for an hour a day = 180 cals burned.
the problem with weight loss is the slow progress. You want the weight to drop off immediately, or you give up. But think - it's taken you 40 yrs or whatever to put on the weight, it's not going to vanish in a week. Keep at it, good luck.
BTW, People think I'm a skinny little size 8 thing, and it's okay for me, but I have to work really hard at it, or my bum turns into a size 12 PDQ. As a small person I don't need that many calories at all, so I can't eat 'all I want to'...every pound shows on a small frame. I don't snack, I don't eat choc or crisps (often); I don't eat fried food, pastry, cakes or biscuits (but I don't crave them either). I don't drive, so I have to walk or bike everywhere.
My downfall is red wine and lattes, but I try to have them in moderation. That's what it all is really, balance. You can have your nice food, but you have to burn it off if you want to be slimmer. Calories in, calories out. Eat less, exercise more.Last edited by Two_Sheds; 30-03-2008, 08:01 AM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Two Sheds
That's really good advice. Thanks.
I've decided to limit my wine to two bottles a week, starting today. I've bought myself a couple of 4oz wine glasses to help. This should cut about 3000 cals per week, I think this is about a pound of weight?

To shift 1lb of body fat, you need to ‘lose’ 3,500 calories. That might sound a lot, but over a week, it amounts to just 500 calories a day – and that can easily be done by making a few little changes to your diet, being a bit more active, or best of all, doing both Calories in a Pound of Body FatAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.
