What do they suggest a swiss roll for? If it is turrets, you can always make 'solid' ones by cooking ordinary Victoria Sponge mix in well washed food tins. I believe that a mix in a 'standard' tin (baked bean size) takes about 20-25 mins, at the same temp you would use for an ordinary 'sandwich' cake.

Well parties over&managed a couple of swiss rolls for cake! Not as easy as i remember from my schooldays!1st one slightly overcooked(about 1min!)to roll,2nd one let cool too much to roll.but determined as i was to make it work, learnt from my mistakes & the next 3 came out fine.well worth it~not often a proud person but on this occassion I had success & if I say so myself managed a cake to be proud of~&D didn't seem to notice the lack of butterflies flying out of it!!:cheers for your posts.
BTW Hilary,I tried the washed out tin method a while back for a train & couldn't get the darned thing out!!!the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

You only use the baked bean tin ONCE. To get the cake thing out you cut off the other end and push it out with the cut off base...... (that is unless you use the sort of tin opener whch cuts through the SIDE of the tin, in which case you can put a circle of greaseproof in the bottom and it will come out just fine)Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
