You can do it with shanks easily enough (I have) although the meat will slip off very very easily so be careful when you lift the shanks out

I read somewhere that the original recipe was how the robbers slow-cooked stolen meat in secrecy (Kleftiko apparently means something to do with 'stolen'). Never come across a recipe, anyone got one handy? I would probably make it with mutton (if I could get any) because I prefer mutton to lamb.

Thanks broadway. Wonder if it would work in the slow cooker?
It does. We toyed with the idea of a tagine, but in reality were not sure we'd use it enough for it not to become another annoying kitching thingy that gathers dust.

If you like slow-roasty, stewy, slow cooked things (I love them too) then I would try a tagine - looks nice on the table when you serve it too.
And a tagine cooked in a tagine feels special as well!
