    Ain't that the truth!

Friends here for lunch as well.

No proper starter but a kind of onion and olive focaccia for nibbles, nan e-barbari bread to go with the meal.

Lamb tagine with apricots and aubergines with Persian saffron rice. For afters, in honour of our Italian friend who's coming, an Italian lemon polenta and almond cake with whipped cream and raspberries from the freezer.

Can't imagine we'll want much supper...

Edited: decided against the Italian polenta cake. Way too much butter after the lamb. An Italian ring cake with yogurt and sunflower oil instead. Still nice. Still Italian.

I'm now drooling at the thought of homemade cassoulet. I've only ever eaten it in France and Lebanon.....never in England. Have you a recipe?

        • A recipe?…sorry, nah…I’m more of a ‘bung in what I’ve got in ‘ sort of lass…based on a selection of recipes I check out to see what’s in clouded in something specific.
Our household has a cellar full of preserves and dried legumes, and three freezers full of meat, veg and fruit etc. It’s more a question of ‘ Ready steady Cook ‘ here but with thousands of ingredients to choose from …oldest being used up first of course!

Todays is roughly based on this though….

          if that’s a help?
Ours is a mix of lentils and beans, celery seed instead of celery, lardons and belly pork and turkey for the meat and no gelatin….

          • No cooking for me tonight.

            • Tonight is easy. Leftovers from yesterday. Chicken, fried up potatoes and vegetables and gravy (a.k.a. bubble and squeak) and gravy. Followed by leftover lemon meringue pie. 😋😋😋

                    • We ended up having a vegetable tagine with chickpeas last night. Pretty good and a darn sight cheaper than the lamb on Sunday...

Supposedly doing a noodle version of paella today (called a fideuà) but I can't be bothered. I feel a bit cooked out. Squisotto is an easy option instead if I can't get in touch with friend up the valley and tell him to fend for himself. If I can, it'll be beans on toast for Mr Snoop and me.

Edited to add: impressive looking lemon meringue pie there, GF.

                        • Tonight chicken Kiev, tomato, pesto and mozzarella bake, beer battered onion rings and garlic bread.

Snoop, I am drooling.😋 I actually think I prefer fideuà to paella. Maybe I'll attempt one, one day soon now you've put the idea in my head.

                          • We seem to becoming increasingly predictable in the choice of meals because Himself is unwilling to try anything he thinks is "foreign" so it's chicken and salad here again. I've managed to successfully smuggle grapes in with the too much mayo, so today I've put a few walnuts in there. We'll see

I think I'd rather have what you're having, truth be told!

Anyway, fideuà is off tonight. Tomorrow instead. It's going to be fideuà del pastor. I kept the bones from Sunday's leg of lamb to make the stock and kept back a small amount of the meat. Fideuà is a great way of making a small amount of expensive ingredients go a long way! Here's a recipe in Spanish, but Google Translate will provide you with a decent version in English if you need it.

                              • That looks lovely Snoop.

We decided on duck breast (wow…I couldn’t believe how expensive it’s suddenly become!…bird flu no doubt?)…with mashed sweet potato and peas with cranberry sauce followed by raspberry macaron dessert from Lidl.
And a bottle of fizz of course!
