  • Tonight salmon. I think I'll bake it with lemon and capers and we'll have new potatoes, sweetcorn and peas with it.

The nectarines on the windowsill are still not ripe so I'll see if there are any strawberries when I go out or it might be tinned mandarins in orange jelly again. I'm not really ready for Winter type puddings yet.

    • Whelks ( from the market yesterday) for starters
Chicken goujons served with our own spuds and the last of our french beans,
      Stewed plums for pud.

      • Salad with home-grown grapes for afters.

Bread for the weekend and neighbours and pastry for a lemon meringue tart to make for tomorrow (we're off to the neighbours' for lunch and I know the husband is a keen meringue fan, whereas she is a big breadhead).

We did have salmon but with sweetcorn cooked in butter and an avocado and tomato salad. Also really nice strawberries and cream.

          • We planned having Spam, egg and chips but there was a fair bit of Briam left from yesterday so that replaced the chips.

            • Off out for lunch for which I'm making focaccia and a raspberry and custard filled sponge flan. Never made one before, so wish me luck. Also thinking of decorating it with some piped whipped cream. Never done that either, so fingers crossed it doesn't look a mess.

No idea what we'll want for supper after lunch. Soup maybe?

              • After a great reaction to last weeks Haggis, we're having the other half today with mashed potato, carrots, peas, beetroot and a creamy gravy.

                Strawberries and cream.

I hope your sponge flan and piping worked well, Snoop. I was watching James Martin making beautiful sugar corkscrew type decorations on TV this morning and was nearly tempted to have a go but then I imagined what my kitchen might look like afterwards.

                • Just had ‘left overs’ soup for lunch then ‘left overs’ in a frittata for supper.
I can actually see the shelves in my fridge for the first time in ages!

                    • It doesn't look fantastic, GF, but it's acceptable for a first try and tasted pretty good. The crème patissière was delicious. Never made it before either. Mr Snoop had ordered lemon meringue pie for his upcoming birthday meal, but now he's changed it to custard and cream-filled profiteroles.

The other thing is a focaccia of sorts. A bit burnt as I was in a hurry, but the crumb was very good.

                      • Oh yummy yum Snoop!
I love custard but crème patisserie is the next step beyond!…well done lass!

                            • Snoop, it does look fantastic! Yum, yum!

I'm still deciding between prawn curry OR cheese, onion and mushroom quiche for tonight.

                              • Decision made… duck breast with a few baby runner beans which have appeared, and new potatoes.
I’m still fancying Yorkshire pudding though!
