Flo it’s more exciting than ‘my go to’ of porridge, raspberries and yoghurt. MrPots is a cheese sandwich and a bag of crisps.

    • My ‘go to’ is peanut butter with squashed banana butty.

They didn't turn out, I'm afraid. We had unexpected visitors, which rather upended the day. Maybe next weekend?

I love making and eating soup, Bren. The best comfort food there is.

On the cards for today, a big pot of minestrone for lunch and the freezer. All kinds of options for supper but the leeks need eating up first. So another leek and pea curry. Possibly onion bhajis to accompany or another chickpea biryani.

          Edited to add:

Flo, I can't imagine 'forgetting' advent calendar chocolates. I'm a disgrace - I'd be having them with my breakfast coffee.

          • My 'go to' at the moment is either a bowl of cornflakes or two, occasionally four, of the chocolate miniature Mars/Snickers bars I bought ages ago. They were a good buy as they are still going strong a couple of months later, and still taste good, even though out of date now.

            • I think I'll get some cod out of the freezer and make a fish pie topped with mashed potato today. We'll have it with carrots and French beans.

For pudding apple and blueberry "something," I think. Either pie, crumble, or sponge. If I make crumble, I'll make plenty crumble mix and and store the extra in a jar in the fridge, or a bag in the freezer, ready for the next few times.

Also nice chopped into slices and mixed into a fresh fruit salad!

                      • Yesterday was a spag bol, which somewhat ruined Dry January. Chianti doesn't keep, does it? Today was supposed to be a jam jar chicken Korma.

I got a delayed message that the kids weren't coming because they were worried about the weather when I'd just finished browning the chicken. So I put half of that in the fridge and swapped the korma jam jar for a Madras one.

                        • ^No need to worry, Mark. I'm starting dry January tomorrow, Kings Day (Epiphany), which is yet another big festive day here (more important than Christmas Day). Just keep it going an extra few days into February.
