  • I really like cardoon, MelanieSW. It's traditionally cooked here (I live in Aragon) in an almond sauce. Delicious. The other thing that's often done here with artichoke stems, which would work very well with cardoon, is peel, batter and deep fry. Those are dangerously good...

Edited to add link to recipe for cardoons in almond sauce in English: https://www.chefspencil.com/cardoons-with-almond-sauce/

Been overdoing the cooking a bit for visitors recently. Last night was Delia's vegetarian moussaka with a ricotta topping, followed by an Italian recipe for a lemon, polenta and almond cake.

Just the two of us tonight. Turkey burgers, salad and baked pots.

    • Tonight salmon. I think it's going to be a salmon, pea, sweetcorn and leek risotto.

      • Just got chicken thighs out of the freezer to defrost slowly in the fridge overnight to make into something tomorrow night, also potted meat for a sandwich at lunchtime.

I have just also, naughtily, made a loaf tin of "sticky chocolate cake", a.k.a. fridge cake, a.k.a. tiffin. I am feeling in need of chocolate and hoping it is cold and set well before bedtime.

        • Tonight I did kedgeree, MIL hadn't had it before and liked it. I would have preferred less rice, more fish and maybe some sumac to give a more citrusy flavour. Peas as well would have helped, but then I'm a barbarian.
Location:- Rugby, Warwckshire on Limy clay (within sight of the Cement factory)

              • According to my list of meals, it's aubergine parmigiana tonight. A bit of a faff. It might turn into imam bayildi instead.

Edited to add: I'd have put peas in, Mark Rand, if that was what I fancied. There's always next time.

                    • I think I'll make a chicken, leek and mushroom pie with the chicken thighs I took out of the freezer last night. We'll have it with French beans and mashed swede.
