I'm trying Aldi's plant based onion and rosemary sausages for a change.
Vegetarian sausages always look a bit weird to me, but I always really enjoy them. I've never tried those. Let me know what you think.

Keema pav with Madhur Jaffrey's green beans and rice for us tonight.

    • Salmon today. I know if I give Mr GF any choices of how to cook it, he will pick risotto, so I may as well just decide on that with sweetcorn, peas and any other veg bits thrown in.

Strawberries and cream if there are any around when I go out.

      • Quick and easy - defrosted steak and kidney casserole served with mash and peas.

        Yog and clementines for pud

No nice strawberries, so I made an apple crumble, which was a really nice change.... I might just finish it for supper😋

I think cooking them in a casserole was a mistake it made them have a odd texture more like a dumpling than a sausage. Next time I'll fry them and add them at the end.

              • Thanks, Bren. The ones I've bought here have a kind of rubbery texture, bit like a German sausage. And yes, very odd.

Misir and doro wat for us today.

                • Pork loin steaks, roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips, broccoli cheese and YPs. I'm about to freeze some pots of Greek yoghurt to try as dessert.

They work better if you stir a bit of jam or sugar in. The sugar reduces the formation of ice crystals. Makes it more ice cream like.

                      • ^I have one of those cheap ice cream makers where you freeze the bowl in the freezer. I just bung in three or four Greek yogurts and a tsp of icing sugar (add a bit more if you have a sweet tooth or not worried about the calories) and then, towards the end of the churning process, a bit of cherry jam or something like that. Works a treat when you fancy an ice cream but a bit healthier too. Firm enough to eat like a soft-serve ice cream straight away or can be frozen in the freezer if you like a firmer texture. Kids in particular love it. Got me out of a pickle many a time when I've lacked a pud for visiting families.

If you get one of these machines, don't fill more than half to 2/3rds full at the start. The stirring whips in a lot of air, adding to the final volume. Don't ask me how I know...

                        • Oh dear…I did a quick grory hop and came back with frozen battered fish and a bag of oven chips….Not good for the diet, but heck, my mouth is drooling at the very thought. A similar reaction from OH too who nipped into our cellar/ food store and came out with a tin of mushy peas …No idea that was there, but he’s clearly had his eyes on it for a while!!!,

I did sprinkle some sugar in it Snoop Puss and some raspberry jam. Hope there's enough sugar to prevent ice crystals. Wish I'd seen your advice before they went in the freezer

                            • I had something else planned but certain "bad influences" have put the idea of fish and chips in my head. I've just mentioned it to Mr GF. Guess what we're having for tea now?😋😋 We're trying a different fish and chip shop today. Very close, with good reviews. We shall see. I am hopeful.

There's always next time! And in any case, you might be successful this time. Fingers crossed. Could save yourself a ton of money next summer!
