  • Maybe chuck in some spuds to help soak it up? I guess they might disintegrate though?

Ignore me. I realise you don't mean what I was thinking initially.

I always bung everything in: onions, leeks, apples, carrots and spuds. Hour and a half with the lid on, half an hour or so with the lid off. Usually really good. Fingers crossed for today. It was bought on my behalf by the neighbours down the valley. She loves the yellow ones, so maybe she's subtly trying to indoctrinate me. Not sure her plan is going to work...

            • ^It was actually pretty good. But very fatty in comparison. But as Mr Snoop said, the fat made it seem very moist. Anyway, we'll not turn our noses up at another yellow one if that's what comes. Very good of the neighbours to bring shopping back for us.

              • I always thought yellow chickens were corn fed?
However, I was just checking at it turns out that chickens can be fed marigolds as a healthy food supplement which can make yolks more golden and can tint the flesh yellow.the flesh.
I wonder if yours might be fed in that way…or is it a certain breed?
( as an aside- have you seen pictures of black fleshed hens?)

                  • Tumble salad here. Star guests being our eggs and chillied anchovies.

Clementines for pud ( couldn’t believe it when I spotted more!) most certainly my favourite citrus fruit by far!)

                      • I must have been in a "fishy" mood this week when I ordered my grory hop. I don't want anything to go out of date, so I've decided to put the smoked mackerel in the freezer for now. We'll have salmon tonight and Basa fillets (never tried before) tomorrow.

So tonight I think the salmon can go in a risotto with sweetcorn, french beans and peas.

I might just make the Black Forest trifle that I've been fancying.

I've just googled the black chickens. Although they look like magnificent birds when alive, they looked weird plucked and ready to cook. Black or grey food somehow just doesn't appeal to me on a plate.... or blue.

                        • Snoop, what surprised me in Spain when I bought a chicken was I got a "whole" chicken, including the head and feet. I did like the yellow ones.

                          • That used to be very common here too gf…but not so much now.

Skinned rabbits always come with their heads on when bought from local butchers still. When I asked why, I was told because they look really similar to cat
