Thanks, Bren. Really useful. The photos of the beef look very different to what I can find in my butcher's, not so much in shape as in fat. I'll have a look next time I go to a supermarket, see if they have joints with some marbling.

      Oxtail maybe Snoop?
We can buy them tied into rounds here. Those should cook well low and slow.. just bones to pick out later but they won’t be small fiddly things.

Ah- just spotted it mentioned in one of the links.

      Nice links btw Bren!

Oxtail... in all the years we've been here, I've only seen it in a supermarket once. Never in any of the big indoor markets in Barcelona even.

I can get osso bucco, but it's turkey!

In some respects, the lack of beef is actually quite admirable, as most of the meat eaten round here will be locally raised. You'd have to go some way to find a farm raising beef cattle.

Oxtail definitely works well in a slow cooker. Last weekend's boeuf bourguignon was done in the slow cooker and tomorrow's chicken casserole will be also.

I'm doing braising steak and potatoes in the slow cooker today for this evening pie. Will add the mushrooms during the last hour.

I’m actually quite tempted to buy a slow cooker! Not that we need one

link on haybox cooking might be helpful.
