  • Green plum recipes please!

Having had a huuuge plum branch snap off my plum tree, I now have several kilos of green plums.
    Dont want to waste them
Any ideas would be most welcomed

First of all, I would recommend biting into one and seeing what it tastes like. Some plum varieties are very bitter when unripe. If yours are like this, you should just chuck the lot, as there is not a lot you can do about the bitterness.

If your green plums are just sour and not bitter, though, there are definitely things that can be done with them.
You could try making an ersatz umeshu (a Japanese liqueur made from unripe ume plums, but any unripe plum can be used as a substitute).
You could try making jam from them.
There are also recipes online for pickled green plums, which can then be used as an accompaniment for cheese and meats.
Finally, there are a fair number of dishes in Middle Eastern cooking which use unripe green plums in savoury dishes.

Unripe green plums are popular to eat and use in Turkey, so try looking up "green Turkish plum recipes" online.
