      • i pulled all my trailing toms of the blighted plants today. Can these be used as they are really quite small?

        • Yup, that's what I used. It was finished and canned up last night, the last jar just popped a minute ago strangely enough.

We are opening one tomorrow to have with poppadoms and felafel for tea tomorrow.

Norty Step I know, but if the OH is keen, then there's no stopping him.

          • Thanks Zazen, i got 3 lb off my 5 plants today so will crack on with making some tomorrow. Fingers crossed my cordons look OK so far.

I thought i'd be more gutted than i am, because at least i know i am going to have something to show. I was just going to take them into work to snack on!

            • OK, I have prepared my toms and onions, salted them and left them overnight, so I'm ready to finsh off tonight.
I have a question.... how should I prepare the 1kg of cooking apples? just chop them?
Also, I didn't have a way to mince the toms, so I chopped some and finely sliced some. Do you think this is OK?

              thanks in advance

              • I just peeled and chopped them straight into the pan once all the other stuff was in there.

I have already polished off a small jar [but not as small as Piskie's jars] and the second is chilling in the fridge waiting to be popped open this afternoon.

                    • That's the first batch of this years Earthbabe Special Green Tomato Chutney simmering away on the cooker - about 14lbs of green toms, so quite a big batch. If it turns out the same as last years, I'll be well happy

                        • I was being badgered by some customers at the last Farmers Market who wanted to know when I would have some for sale this year. Very popular it was, and no doubt will be again.

                            • I made some of this a couple of years ago but haven't had enough green tomatoes since, they always seem to ripen so easily on the window ledge. Maybe keep some back next year as it is very nice.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
