  • Slow Cooker Help Please!

I have (finally!) managed to acquire a slow cooker... it was given to my mum by one of the ladies she helps at Age Concern, but my mum already has one. It's only a small, fairly old one, but still works

I know that I can do basics with a SC (chicken and pork cooked in water or stock) but does anyone have any good recipes ideas for meals that I can put in the SC in the morning that will be ready when I get home?

    Thanks!!

I did (& am doing again today) a huge batch of pumpkin curry.Just chop up as much pumpkin & onion as will fit in the cooker.Dissolve some curry paste(to your taste)in boiling water...add to the pumpkin/onions & add more boiling water to cover. Also to make up for the cheating with the curry paste I add several chopped chillies also.
the fates lead him who will;him who won't they drag.

HFW did a pair of lovely recipes in the Guardian on Saturday. Sure you'll be able to find them online. I'm trying the chicken and cider with rosemary dumplings - a nice welcome home dish for Mr R who's working in London but back tomorrow evening!

Yes OWG, just about any Casserole-type meal, bung it all in and switch it on. There's several threads on here already if you search, and some of them are really good ie Lamb Shank recipe. I couldn't get any Shanks this week, so tried it with neck fillets - more meat, better value, less hassle and YUMMY.

Also Curries, Chilli, Snake and Pygmy...

Good luck, you'll soon be hooked!

My OH loves slow potted beef. (I`ve never managed to roast it without it being tough.)
Just throw beef joint into pot with a pint of beef gravy, onions, carrots, leeks etc. salt, pepper any herbs you like and leave for ages.

                    Thanks guys!!

This morning I have chucked in - casserole beef, carrots, potatoes, parsnips, sweet potato, onion, stock, tinned tomatoes, garlic and mustard.....

Not sure what it will turn out like, but as long as it's hot and cooked when I get home, I don't care!

Diced pork, can of pineapple chunks, stock, your own preferred seasoning. Chuck it in in the morning, serve it in the evening and call it something with 'Hawaiian' in the title. It's actually rather lovely.
