    What a great idea Flum! I'll palm half of them off on the outlaws and use the other half for a bread an butter pudding

    I just tried half of one and it wasn't quite as bad as my memory from last night suggests! I think perhaps fault lies in part with me; I used skimmed milk and the lack of an actual cooking temperature might have led me to cook them a little more briskly than they deserved.

    However, they still aren't as sweet as I like

    I notice that Mrs beeton uses double the amount of sugar, and Marge instead of butter. (Is the marge Stork or something similar)?

    I made the +'s with plain flour/caster sugar/water paste and piped them - they came out right!
    Excuse me, could we have an eel? You've got eels down your leg.

      I use Bertolli cos that's in the fridge.

        This is the recipe from my bread machines manual.

        Hot cross buns
        Water 1 cup
        Butter (melted) 1/4 cup
        Sugar 1/4 cup
        Egg (beaten) 1
        Salt 1 tsp
        Strong white bread flour 3 3/4 cups
        Fast action yeast 2 tsp
        Cinnamon 1 tsp
        Nutmeg 1/4 tsp
        Raisins 1 cup
        Use setting 8 Dough

        Method
        1 Divide into 8-12 pieces. Shape and flatten slightly.
        2 Glaze with egg and milk (but not the cross).
        3 Cover and allow to rise for 30 minutes.
        4 Bake in oven 375ºF (190ºC) for 16-18 minutes.
        5 Glaze with egg and milk if required.
