About a third of a bottle of fruit, filled up with vodka, sugar to taste Frozen fruit works reeally well, because as it defrosts in the vodka it releases the juices too.
I used to make drink from vodka that tasted just like apple schnapps i was taught how to make it by a friend we stay with in germany,
He gets about a litre of cooked apple, cherrys or apricots (cooked with a bit of water till they go to mush and have little water left), then he mushes it up, adds a litre of it to a litre of vodka and shakes it round, puts it in a jar in a cupboard for a couple of weeks shakeing occasionaly, then strains it,
Then you mix 2 parts of the flavoured vodka and 1 part golden syrup
It tastes great, possibly can be done with less syrup, ive never tried...i like sweet drinks
I like raspberry vodka - the alcohol preserves all the delicate raspberry flavour. Absolutely delicious!
I use a tall Kilner jar (2litres, I think), half fill with raspberries (about 600g), add some caster sugar (my recipe suggests 300g, but I think that's too much!) and then fill to the top with vodka - a standard 75cl bottle is usually about right. Put in a cool dark cupboard and gently shake every day or two until the sugar is dissolved. After a couple of months, drain carefully and decant into a bottle. Don't throw the raspberries away - they will be a dull pale pink colour but are still delicious with icecream
P.S. I base this on a recipe for redcurrant gin (also very nice!) from "Sensational Preserves" by Hilaire Walden
Well..I suppose I had to suggest rhubarb schnapps didn't I?????
here's Andrewo's posting a while back!!
"I've just done a search for the recipe and cannot find it, so here it is again:
You have to be patient because the process couldn't be easier. The recipe I use comes from Nigella Lawson's 'How to Be a Domestic Goddess'.
The ratio is 2 lbs rhubarb to 1 1/2 cups sugar to 1 litre of vodka (I buy the cheap stuff from Sainsbury's - have discovered by trial and error that this is the best one).
I cut the rhubarb into 1 1/2 inch pieces, place in a sterilized jar, add sugar, pour vodka over to fill the jar, cover tightly, and shake alot.
I then put the jars somewhere cool and dark for at least 6 weeks (I put mine under the stairs) and shake it every few days.
The light, aromatic liquor tastes like sweet-sour cotton candy and funnily enough with a hint of peaches. You can drink it straight, and boy will that give a flush to your cheeks but it works well with lemonade and soda water (especially in summer with some fruit and borage in, like pimms but with a hell of kick). It also works well over ice cream."
I've made quite a lot of it over the years- and it's lovely- although now I put in much less sugar!
All these recipes are about the same as my sloe gin recipe. I have some biggish jars which originally contained olives. I fill very loosely with sloes to about 3/4 full, pour on dry sugar to just 'cover' (don't shake the jar while filling). Then put the lid on, shake violently, and stand on a sunny windowsill (if you have one) for 2 days, shaking twice a day. The airing cupboard might do. It is warmth that makes the juice run. When there is reddish syruppy liquid in the base of the jar, add gin, until the jar is pretty full. Put in wamr cupboard, but stir/shake daily until all the sugar has dissolved. Leave 6 weeks to 6 months (we often don't get around to bottling it for ages). Strain and bottle. If you didn't leave it too long you can do a second extraction (the fruit will have shrunk, so use less sugar and gin). This won't be as good as the first, but decidedly in the 'drinkable' category.
You can do similar with pretty near any combination of fruit and distilled alcohol. Some spirits are 'gentler' than others. Most prefer tart fruits with the 'gentle' spirits, and sweeter fruits with the harsher types.

The sloe gin was fab too!!!!!!
I also used the cheapest gin and vodka i could find.
Anybody made anything with white rum - somebody left a bottle of some really cheap and nasty bacardi rip off at our house after a party a couple of years ago and it could do with livening up. Was thinking of trying it with some of the blackberries I have left in the freezer but am open to suggestions.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
