I wouldn't have the patience - I'd just spoon the condensed milk out of the tin and down my throat. When I got married (first wife, not the current model), my brother was best man and as an extra gift during his speech he presented my wife with a big box of assorted teaspoons - he claimed that in our house when we were kids you could never find a teaspoon cause they were all stuck in empty tins of condensed milk hidden under my bed

My dad keeps threatening to make this again, but I ate so much of it at Guide/Scout camps it put me off it for life!!

Another fan of the evap milk/jelly thing here We used to have it poured on a cheesecake base as well, made it a bit less sickly sweet. Mam sometimes mixed ginger biscuits in with the digestives, and used lime jelly. That was yummy. Or used orange jelly and mixed a tin of drained mandarins in with the topping...
Might just have to do this again..

Another one for you is kulfi, the Indian style ice cream. Very easy to make in all kinds of fruit flavours and it lasts well, we currently have a load of mango kulfi in generous portion sized tablets in our freezer :-)

MaureenHall - I cant find find my fave online kulfi recipe :-( However I have this one that I had bookmarked as 2nd favourite, which is similar, though it doesnt help amandanadherveg as it doesnt have either evap or cream in it ! The one I used last time had evap as well as condensed milk (not many calories there, then !) and the powdered milk too which I think helps it set. Some recipes have gelatine for setting, which I prefer not to use. Let me know if you try it !

My mango ice cream had a much higher mango content. 400ml mango puree (half a 800ml tin) a small carton double cream (can't remember the exact in ml, but it's 5 fl oz). The tinned puree I used was already sweetened, so I just bunged that lot in my ice cream machine. Deelish!

I love simple recipes without 'fuss'.

Whisk the evaporated milk til it doubles its volume then whisk in the dissolved jelly. Leave to set.
Whenever I think of my Aunt Marion this recipe comes to mind. I always thought it the most luxourious of puddings!

I make a dessert that we used to call a fridge cake How many biscuits you need depends on the size of your dish.
You chill the evaporated milk overnight, drain a tin of pineapple and measure the juice making up to 250ml (1/2 pint) with water if necessary, heat the juice and dissolve a pineapple or lemon jelly in it and leave till cold. Whip up the evaporated milk and then mix in the jelly and the pineapple cut into really small bits. Line a square or rectangular dish with 'nice' biscuits or similar (In SA we use something called tennis biscuits which are thin square biscuits flavoured with coconut, Sains do an equivalent but I can't remember what they're called) and cover with half of the jelly mixture, repeat and then sprinkle some crushed up biscuits on top. Chill in the fridge for a few hours so the biscuits go soft. Very yummy.
This is even better made with lemon jelly and two tins of passion fruit pulp, but seeing as you can't get that here unless you live near one of those SA shops...sigh................
