  • Shallot "leaves"

I have shallots in the garden and I'm sure I remember hearing that you could eat the "leaves" of the shallots?
Do they need to be young shoots, mine have been in the ground since mid spring and the shoots are approx 1' high.
Do I need to cook them, how would I use them.
Don't want to let anything go to waste

    Thanks
Consider the daffodil. And while you're doing that, I'll be over
    here, looking through your stuff.

Just cut the green shoots (don't take them all off the one plant) Mustard and snip them up and use like spring onions in the salad or cut into bigger lengths and add to the stir fry. It's all edible. The same goes for the tops off the onions, beetroot, radish, turnips. Stir fry in some butter and garlic or anything you like.

From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Same goes for kohl rabi leaves - tastes like kale - you can omit the tough stems though.

However, doesn't harvesting the leaves stunt growth? Does the plant then use energies to replace lost leaves?
