Even in these warm days i still eat my morning porridge, but i am alittle bored of apple and dried cranberry, so i wanted to know if you all the faithful grapeviners had any ideas. I live with a half scotish half yorkshire man so we both have different ideas on porrigde, he likes it made with a little water and salt, and he has to make it himself as i a lowly lincolnshirer.

With rhubarb season upon us I am mostly enjoying mine with the rhubarb I bottled last week, delish! And I confess that whatever preserve I have made but not 100% happy with usually ends up stirred into my porridge... the rhubarb and mint jelly has gone down nicely in this way. Or a nice nutty concoction with chopped hazelnuts and flaked almonds. Frozen blueberries chucked in are good, although the colour might not be to eneryone's taste.

The only way I have ever managed to eat porridge was with NO sugar, but with crumbled crispy-fried bacon scattered on top, like croutons on soup.
Thinking about 'unlikely combinations that work', you could probably add maple syrup to that. On a short holiday in Canada I discovered just how well bacon and maple syrup do go together......

I like to have mine with some honey, pumkin seeds, sunflower seeds, raisins. Sometimes I also add some crushed flaxseeds. My OH has his with chopped bananas which I hate.

I am with you on that. A Canadian friend gave me a bottle of maple syrup on holiday last year. I could never see the appeal of the stuff but was too polite to turn it down. I made american style pancakes, crispy bacon and maple syrup and totally got it!
