I love cooking but hate fancy sauces and things - I like the flavour of the food to come through. This cook book has loads of good old-fashioned sort of recipes - I know they are staple ones as they are the same as in my mum's edition from the 60's.

Mind you, I must confess, I won't be trying any of the recipes for veal and offal and I am unlikely to use many of the fish recipes either (I used to work for the Fisheries department of MAFF in the dying days of our local fishing fleet and saw some things that put me off fish forever) but every recipe I have ever tried has been superb.

Shirley, that Rich Venison Casserole was absolutely fabulously fantastically amazingly wonderfully delicious!!! We've just finished eating about 1/2 of it, along with some creamy mashed potato and turnip and with some steamed cauliflower and broccolli! The whole lot was sooo tender, the venison melted in my mouth and the sauce was sooo rich!

Thank you for posting it, and making Mr D and me very full and very impressed indeed!

For anyone thats wondering whether to try it, dont hesitate, dont even think of hesitating, it is beyond words, yep, that good!
Thanks Mrs D - glad you both enjoyed it. Might have to try and source some venison to make it myself - would be nice for New Year's dinner. Off to try and copy the recipe to the 'Grapevine Stew' thread.
