Need some truffle help 😳
Hi, me and my friend where digging a hole in the woods and come across a large truffle weighing 160grams since then we have been digging by hand and found a further 20 trufflesweighing between 5 and 70 gramms. I'm not to sure what truffles they are Autumn truffles, black truffles, summer truffles...??? They look the same?? And is it possible to dig more by hand or did we just get lucky ? If so does any one have any hints or tips on where to look ? Also how come they barley smell or taste of any thing ? Is it to early in the season? Many thanksAttached Files

As VC said - fungi range from the edible to the always fatal so you have to be 100% certain.
Also remember that if you are digging up roots, truffles etc you need permission of the land owners - and yes even the local woods or verges along roads are owned by someone.

Welcome to the vine Luke
Like VC I'm unable to help, but it's fascinating stuff. Please let us know if you find out what you've got.
Just out of interest where abouts are you? And what species of tree were you digging under? Not that I'll be joining in the truffle hunt, I'm very allergic to fungi.
