  • Homemade Easy Peasy Paneer

    We've recently taken to having milk delivered each morning but can't quite get the quantity right (one not enough, two a little too much). Anyhoo, by Saturday we had a fridge full of milk, even after making some yoghurt.

    Fancied a curry so decided to try making paneer (Indian cheese). It's dead easy! Only took about 20 minutes from beginning to end (you can chill overnight but we used straight away).

    If you're interested, just boil milk in a pan (one pint made enough for a substantial side dish of saag-type thing); when it comes to the boil squeeze in half a lemon and stir. That's it!

    Leave for 10 minutes then strain through a muslin, squeeze out moisture, then press into shape and weigh down in fridge, pressed between two flat lids or something.

    Made a lovely aloo saag with potatoes from lottie - excellent!

    I did see this on that programme with the annoying Indian woman (no, not Madhur Jaffrey), but we never make our own curries - no extractor fan in the kitchen (yet). Plus we buy a 2 pint carton of milk and it lasts us all week - sometimes longer.

    I do love a saag paneer to start - or mattar paneer. *insert lip-licking smiley here*

    It's a shame because I;

    a) love cooking
    b) adore Indian food

    When are you back on Masterchef by the way?
