Dried Broad Beans

Someone on another forum I visit says she has left her broad beans on the plant waaaay too long, and is wondering whether the beans can be eaten as 'dried' beans, and if so, how to cook them.
I thought I should ask you lot.

I would imagine soaking them overnight, a good fifteen minute boli and then remove the skins. The beans could then be used to make a puree of some kind. I know what I mean but red wine is interfering with brain function. Humus !
Far easier to use them as seed. Sow now, plant out in october and enjoy a much better crop from overwintered beans.

You could use them to make a nice veg stock, and/or base for a soup?

Or they could be boiled and then chopped up to give the chooks some much needed protein during the winter!

I left a couple of pods to dry on the plants, and they have now germinated all by themselves. The plants are 6" high, but will no doubt be killed by the winter gales.

You can cook the dried beans, just like you would kidney beans: soak them first. Here's a simple recipe: Jacket Potato, Feta Cheese and Broad Beans Recipe
