Crown Prince: yuk

oh, it's horrible. Did I just get a bad one? The flesh is pale orange to dark green, quite hard for a squash and has a texture a bit like melon. (yes, it is ripe).

It's meant to be a really tasty squash, but it's horrible... and now I have 3 litres of Crown Prince soup to eat

I love squash soup: butternut, Golden Nugget, Hooligan and especially Bonbon. But Crown Prince ... I think I'll eBay the remaining fruits.

It must be a taste thing i grow about a dozen seedlings each year for friends to grow on there plots most of them are West Indians and they love them so it has got to be a taste thing.
Have you got any West Indians near you if so you might have a ready made market....jacob

I'm thinking of growing it next year T.S, so I'm hoping you only had the one bad one, I'd be interested to know if anyone else had the same experience too, I can't afford to give so much space up to something if I can't eat the end result.

I love them...but alas none of my seeds germinated this year!
I usually use mine in a curry.
Can't say I remember the flesh having a greenness to it...from memory mine have always been orange flesh(green skin).

Hmmm.
Perhaps mine wasn't ripe after all? The catalogues say it has deep orange flesh. Squash Seed 'Crown Prince' (Cucurbita maxima 'Crown Prince')

I'll leave the other 3 fruits a bit longer and try them again.

Two Sheds.....the 'Mars' pumpkins you very kindly sent to me have grown really well and we have harvested loads....had one Sunday it was lovely thank you!
I have some Crown Prince to try....will keep you posted. Tell you what....either way they do look beautiful and would grow them for that alone
