Perfect recipe, Piglet, especially for pregnant Grapes. Is it possible to substitute a large piece of coal for the brick though? Or would that only work with the black Salsify?

I child-proofed my house, but they still manage to get in.
I have cooked black salsify before ( but never plant them),it has been describe of tasting like oyster but I think it taste more a like cooked radish in texture wise and a somehow starchier . It has a subtle nice fragrance. You have to soak them in water ( and a bit of vinegar ) after peeled to prevent oxidation. cut them around 10 cm and deep fried it like french fries or add them in beef stew.
