  • cake storage once iced?

Ok so I have dragged myself off my sickbed and have iced the cakes. First attempt, not bad, just hope the old dears haven't got good specs on lol.
Now I need to know where to store theme now? One is for us, so can go in a plastic cake box? Or will it sweat?
The mini ones I wanted to wrap in cellophane. Will they dry out?

    Help!

    Thanks X

Janeyo, what sort of icing have you used? Is it flat sugarpaste or Royal Icing?

It was ready rolled, and has gone over marzipan and a very alcoholic fruit cake

when i have iced a cake i leave it for a a day or so with just a dust cover on,like a tea towel, then i join 2 strips of cling film together and us it as the cover up,if you have one of those big cake thing with a lid then thats fine,in days gone by i used royal icing, these days it's the one you roll out yourself, thried the ready rolled 1 once, and never again, euk, and both icings were fine, and it keep for a long time, the spare cake can be frozen in slices,or will keep just fine in a toffee tin.

Perfect!. You definately want to leave them uncovered somewhere cool and dry for at least a couple of days to firm the icing up. After that, you can wrap in cling film, or if you want to protect your diddy ones abit more, cut yourself some cardboard strips slightly taller than the cakes, and long enough to wrap around the sides and secure. This will give you protective collars. You can then wrap the collar and cake together to protect from dust or knocks.

I just store mine after it's set a bit in a standard cake tin and it's fine. Some years it's been a tuperware style and some years an old fashioned tin. Usually stored in increasingly smaller bits until about the end of Feb with no issues. Especially if it's got a high alcohol content, it's not exactly likely to go mouldy!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
