French Onion soup is a favourite, I don't like the floating bread and cheese so have it seperate.
Loads of leeks in the garden at the moment, my two ways of cooking at present, cut fairly finely and steam,

      1) seperate pan, heat cream, stir in copious amounts of cheese, stir in cooked leeks.

      2) seperate pan, heat cream, add crispy grilled chopped bacon and cooked leeks, have added bread crumb and cheese mix to top of mixture and oven bake until crisp, makes a quick supper.

Awww, I LOVE French Onion Soup sooooo much!

Just made a quick Curried Parsnip Soup, was so delish I had to have a second bowl - I'm lovely and warm now!

I've been craving sushi and have gone on a mission to start making my own. I know it's cold food but the pickled ginger and wasabi paste really warm one on a cold day. The carbs from the rice help too. And the fish oil cannot help but counter the Winter blues.

Besides that, I've been craving bangers and mash, pasta dishes, cookies.

The hairy bakers made some crumpets on their latest show Mums Know Best. Seems easy.

Must be something in that - I craved sushi yesterday and had wasabi on slices of ham for lunch. I started making my own a couple of years ago - love it.

My recipe for french onion soup - evolved over the years!
4-5 onions (larger rather than smaller) chopped - browned very slowly in tablespoon of oil and same of butter and teaspoon sugar - for about half an hour until a good brown colour.
Add very well flavoured stock (I use 2 kinds of veggie stock cubes together) - about a pint or so. Add cubed raw potato and simmer till the potato is cooked.
Ladle into bowls. Add a teaspoon of brandy into the centre of the bowl. Float a slice of french bread on top and cheddar or gruyere cheese on top of that. Grill till the cheese is bubbly and browning. Yum.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Thanks Jeanie, I usually use Delia's recipe, but I don't like her oily croutons, so make 'em without the oil.

As my earlier posts suggest I am in a quest for a recipe for some great rice pudding!!
Great (and different) rice pudding recipe.

I steep the caromoms in the milk while it heats up, then remoive them for a more delicate flavour

Thanks for the link, CC - I knew there would be a recipe out there that made it a bit richer than just rice and milk and I can see how the evaporated milk would work there!

Lovely recipe. I really like cardamom in rice pudding. I rarely make a pud but might do this at the weekend. Mr R's partial to a rice pudding.

If pushed for a comfort food pudding, then I usually knock out a baklava - one of the most delish things ever, I think, and dead straightforward with ready-made filo. If anyone fancies a recipe, I'll post it.

There's been some nice recipes posted, I've not had onion soup or rice pudding for years. thanks

Been thinking with all the stirring during cooking that the Indian rice pudding has does that mean there wont be that lovely skin.

That is a HUGE downside, but it is well worth making just for a change.
