I LOVE Baklava. Really really really love it.

If you have left over mash, finely chop some red onion, mix into mash, bit of seasons all, into fridge and then cold on fresh white bread(at least 1 inch thick layer of cold mash) YUM!

Oooooooo....got to try CC's rice pud. I'm doing chicken'n'rice for supper tomorrow so I'd better not have rice for pud too. Perhaps Saturday.

Talking of cardamons, hot chocolate made the old fashioned is nice if you steep a few cardamoms in it, and add a good pinch of cinnamon.

Evaporated milk makes good hot choc too; Two really really heaped tsps of hot choc powder, mix to a paste with half an inch of evap in the bottom of a mug and fill to top with boiling water. Stir well. Lovely creamy frothy hot choc.

Please do post the recipe. It really is very hard to find good Baklava. I used to live a little too near to a Turkish restaurant.

Anything that can be made in my slow cooker (chicken casserole soon to be prepared and thrown in)
Puds - any really as long as they involve custard
              Curries
              Soup and crusty bread
              Toasted sandwiches.
Butternut Squash soup, with smoked paprika to give it a kick.

Did anyone watch Nigel Slater the other night, had some lovely recipes on there. Really must see if has a book out....

my daughter always takes a packed lunch to school - I've been trying to give her hot stuff in a flask recently. I suggested that we put some twirly pasta in her tomato soup as per a post on here and I have to tell you that she thinks this is just the 'coolest idea ever!'

she is off to school today with the very dish and can't wait till lunchtime apparently. So many thanks to whoever posted it - too lazy to check back - sorry!

For anyone who wants to try some glorious baklava, try this recipe. I usually substitute at least some of the almonds for walnuts; I sometimes leave out the orange peel; and I prefer triple-rose water if you can get it.

                    Ok, it's something like this:

                    Ingredients

150g (5 oz) short grain rice
                    1 (410g) tin evaporated milk
                    250ml (8 fl oz) water
                    100g sultanas
                    1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract (LW used vanilla pod)
1/2 teaspoon cinammon (also a pinch of grated nutmeg)

                    Preparation method
                    1. Place all ingredients in slow cooker and stir well.
                    2. Cook on high for 2 or 2 1/2 hours, or on low for 5 to 5 1/2 hours. Stir once during the cooking time.

I have to add one for French Onions soup, however sadly no-one else will eat it (it contains the O word....which works kind of the same was as garlic with vampires in my house) Oh well...

It's snowing like mad here and it's going to be sausage, egg, chips and beans tonight. I can do gourmet, me!

The very thought is making me drool. If I had to make a final choice I would plump for a mashed potato sandwich and if you twist my arm some smoked haddock in it as well.

A quality menu! Egg and chips is one of my very favourite things. Sausage and beans are just added bonuses.

Bren, an inspired choice of recipe - guess what I'm making tomorrow!!! And it looks like a good low cal soup as well!
At work today I was tucking in to the potato and herb soup they make and one of my colleagues was reminiscing about the winter of '62/3 when we had a serious big freeze - and going out with a hot baked potato as a hand warmer / snack!!!
