  • meatloaf?

OH is making meatloaf for tea. I correct that, I am making it as he didn't have time last night, but the thought was there lol.

My recipe says to either cook it normally in oven with piece of oiled g/p paper on top, or to cookit for longer in a bainmarie in oven.

Does anyone have any thoughts on which might better?

If I do it in a bainmarie, do I use cold water or hot? (doh!)

    Thanks

will post recipe if turns out ok

I'd go for the bain marie and I'd use hot water.

Have you not got a fan oven ? You could try a pinch of cayenne . Don't overdo it tho' or have you got any tabasco ?

I used a little bit of chilli powder. I have a fan oven. It's had about an hour so far on 170 degrees. Smells great. Shame I am veggie lol

Right OH says it was a bit like a giant sliced burger and I will prob make it less beef heavy next time!

Recipe to fill 2 lb loaf tin:

750g minced beef, 175g minced pork (I used squeezed out sausages lol)
                    I egg beaten
                    110g breadcrumbs
                    1 tbs tom puree
                    1 med onion finely chopped
                    I clove garlic, crushed
                    1 tbls sage
                    1 tbls mustard
                    1/2 tsp mustard

                    Heat oven to 180
put all ingredients into large bowl and get extremely messy mixing them all up. Put inot 900g / 2lb loaf tin and pat down. Cover top with oiled gp paper (I did not do this and it was fine, but had oven lower). Remove it 15 mins before end
Mine took about 1hr 45 in a bain marie.
If not using bain marie then cook for about an hour half, but check it.

The toddlie liked it, the 5 yr old didn't!

                    salt and pepper
